Bike Trip
About 5 weeks I ago I started a regular weekly workout. Each week I have a minimum milage goal that includes a mixture of swimming, biking and running. I started at a goal of 30 miles and have now worked up to 40 total miles a week.
The majority of my miles come from biking--bad knee dictates little running and I'm a terrible swimmer. I have always loved to bike, especially long distances, but have done very little of that since having children.

Recently Nick and I decided to take a day trip-- on bikes-- to visit Grand Haven. We went this past week since Nick had taken a few days off of work. Grand Haven is a straight shot down LakeShore Drive making the trip very uncomplicated. It took us about an hour and 45 minutes to get there. We got something to eat and headed back home. It took us only 1 hour and 15 minutes to get back home-- we were hauling butt.
On the way home we were coming over a hill ( there are a lot of BIG ups and downs on Lakeshore) and as we came up and over a hill we were very surprised by a huge piece of machinery (some type of street sweeper) engulfing the entire sidewalk in front of us. We didn't hear it coming because there was construction going on in the road that was very noisy. There were trees on either side of us and no where to go. Nick yelled, "Try to get to that driveway fast!" but the next second we realized that we would never make it. Nick swerved in to the trees and then the driver noticed us and backed off. It was close enough to freak us out pretty good, but we got a good laugh out of it after the fact.

Total round trip miles: 33.4. Not too shabby!

I'm hoping that sometime (possibly next summer) we can do a serious, multi-day road trip.
