Want to see more photos of Maxwell Hill... see my Dad's fotopages: http://mjfyzal.fotopages.com

Bukit Larut formerly known as Maxwell Hill is the oldest Hill resort in Malaysia. It was founded approximately 100 years ago and named after George Maxwell a British Resident of Perak. The highest point is 1,250 meters above sea level, approximately 13 kilometers from the base of the Hill. Its first metal road to the top was constructed after the war in 1984. Before then, any person wanting to go to the top, just for the sake of fancy hiking had the choice of Pony Back or Sedan Chair. Land Rover service is the only transport service provided by the State Government of Perak. There are 72 hair-pin bends, once every two minutes along the road. The journey takes about 30 minutes to reach the top station 1,036 meters above sea level at the distance of 10 kilometers. The weather at day time is about 15o C to 25o C. This Hill is known as the wettest place in Malaysia with about 98 inches of rain a year. This resort is suitable for clean atmosphere peaceful, quite and out from the busy city life. Rest houses provide local and western food as requested by the occupants. Own cooking can be done at Bungalows except for gas which can be rented from the caretaker. Camping is strictly prohibited at the Hill Resort areas. Only Gunung Hijau are permitted provided with the permission from the Forest Department and Police Head Quarters. Land Rover services are available at every hour starting from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm at a prescribed rate.
