The Potala palace was built at the time of Sngtsan Ganpo in the 7th century.In the 17th cemtury the 5th Dalai Lama extended the palace to it 's present size.At this time,it also succeeded in becoming the Dalai Lamas's residing place and truned the main political and religious affair.The main construction is divided into two sections.The red and white palace.It is 115.703 metres high with thirteen stories.Including living quarters,temples,funerals stupas and monk dormitories.
