Facts about Prostate
1 The prostate is shaped like a doughnut and sits just underneath
the bladder, wrapped around the upper part of the urethra.

2 The prostate is so named as it is "prostrate before the testes".

3 The prostate is made up of approximately 30% muscular tissue, with the
remaining made up of glandular tissue.

4 The prostate is the size of a pea at birth, and grows to the size of a
walnut in the male adult.

5 The average weight of the prostate is about 20 grams.

6 The prostate produces approximately 40% of the fluid that is
ejaculated.

7 The prostate's growth is most rapid after puberty.

8 The growth of the prostate gland is controlled by androgens, sex
hormones that are responsible for the development of male
characteristics, such as hair and beard growth.

9 The prostate is found deep within the pelvis and is difficult to
examine except through the rectum.

10 Common prostate problems are inflammation (prostatitis), prostate
enlargement (benign prostate hyperplasia), and prostate cancer.
