Day 1 - 23 April 08
We took off from Malaysia at about 2 p.m by Air Asia and reached
Adisucipto Airport at about 3.30 p.m (Indonesian time). We stayed at
Inna Garuda. The rate was Rp600,000 (which is around RM200). It was a good hotel.
Nights began as early as 5.40 p.m there. We strolled along the famous Malioboro street and have dinner at the food court in Malioboro Mall. We had a plate of the must-have
Nasi Gudeg, one for each.
Day 2 - 24 April 08
We checked out from Inna Garuda and went to
the magnificant Borobudur temple and stayed at
Manohara Hotel. The hotel rate was Rp425,000 (divide by 3000 to get the rate in RM). Before that, while waiting for the coach to arrive, we took a ride in a horse cart around the
Kraton area. No shopping (yet) at the moment.
Day 3 - 25 April 08
We checked out from Manohara Hotel and moved to
Poeri Devata Resort Hotel to see the Prambanan Temple. At this moment, the temples are not accessible due to restoration works.
Day 4 - 26 April 08
We moved to another hotel, Mutiara Hotel. This was the last hotel we stayed in Jogjakarta. Before reaching the hotel, we stopped at several more temples along the way including the
Sambisari Temple. This temple was initially
underground (really, under the ground) and was dug up some years ago.
After checking in, we took another fume-choking horse cart ride. This time was to shop, shop, shop. We shopped for
Dagadu T-shirts, Batiks and souvenirs for cheap, cheap, cheap prices!!! We were introduced to the traditional food called
Bakpia. Yummy!!!
At night, we went to Pariwisata to watch the Ramayana Ballet (a traditional musical theater adapted from the famous
Ramayana Epic).
Day 5 - 27 April 08
The next day, we took a horse cart ride again!!! Did I mention that the ride was pretty, pretty cheap? It costs us Rp20,000 only (which is equal to RM7). We visited
Taman Sari where there was an underground mosque.
We shopped for more Dagadus at the Malioboro Mall.
Day 6 - 28 April 08
It was our last day in Jogjakarta. We took a
becak ride around the town (again!!!). We saw the royal coaches at Museum Kareta Kraton, visited the
Sri Sultan Hamengkubowono IX's house and more Batik and Dagadu shopping.
That's all about our visit to Jogjakarta. We reached home at about 8.30 p.m on the same day.
