Welcome to the Female Pinup Gallery. This section features various pinups of female celebrities past and present; when they were still young and hopeful, just getting started or at the height of their careers.
During the golden age of the Hollywood studios, pinup stills were cranked out by the thousands to feed the voracious demands of newspapers, magazines, and clamoring fans.
For half a century, pinups were pasted into scrapbooks, framed on desks, and put up on the walls of barracks, garages, college dorms, and behind locker room doors. The aim of the studio publicity departments was to create audience interest in their films and promote the careers of their stars and contract players. From this practical motivation came a unique minor art form that combined sexual tease with innocent fantasy.
